About Me
One overworked, overwrought mother, two active boys, a neurotic dog and a rubber chicken.
Welcome to my world.
My life isn’t made up of white picket fences and happy endings.
And for a long time I wished that it were.
Instead I faced divorce.
Single motherhood.
Constant budget crises.
Homeownership.
A busy career.
And last but not least a neurotic dog.
But once I decided to abandon the idea of perfection, I found humor in my life and a lens through which I could see my children for who they really are.
And it all
started with
a rubber chicken.

Hey Soul Sister! I’m still struggling with the loss of perfection (or wishful perfection). We have all of those other attributes in common, so it must be destiny that I found your blog today. I will read onward…

Hi — Thanks for the Go Confidently piece I just saw today. Sounds very much like my daughter’s school situation, except for the missing link: an alternative. She desperately begs and pleads for homeschooling, but I think (and her psychiatrist does too) that that would take her depression from bad to worse. It would only isolate her more. We have no church affiliation and she has no hobbies or interests (sports, etc.), so there aren’t those groups either. I, too, am a single mom and while I make good money, living in SoCal costs most of it. If you could tell me how you found this miracle private school, I’d appreciate it. I’ve scoured the Internet and have not found anything that seems particularly special. Also, how did you discover the way to apply to pay for it? Hope you don’t mind my asking. Just need some info from someone who’s done it because I am spinning my wheels.
I am emailing you.
