On a chilly Thursday night, in a conversation with a friend, I promised to write 100 words of fiction this week.
Baby steps, right?
Well, here’s a third of my promise. Used Trifecta’s Weekend Trifextra challenge to craft some fiction. The prompt: 33 words in first person narrative.
Dear friend, I didn’t promise to write them all at once (wink)!

Isn’t it interesting how our kids have more money than we do sometimes? Well done!

Thanks for the nudge
It felt good to try a bit of fiction.
My kids always had more money than me and were crazy money lenders so I didn’t borrow.

I wondered if the kids would charge interest…That would be an interesting twist.
This is great! I’m excited to read your next 67!

Thank you. My real life is relatively happy…it’s nice to go “darker” in my fiction.
You have really captured the bitter reality that exists for people in poverty and/or, the working poor in these 33 words. Adults shouldn’t have to worry about nickels or have to borrow/take from their own children but, far too many do. It is just sad, sad, sad. Your story paints that picture exactly. Well done.
Thank you. I pulled this nugget from a story my grandmother used to tell. She paid back her kids using nickels from her tips.
Turn the lights off! Turn the lights off!!
