My family seems rather ordinary on the outside. Or maybe not, depending on your definition of ordinary. So just for fun on this chilly January day, I offer five random facts about my family. They might help you get to know us a bit better.
You might decide we’re the weird family down the block.
Or…
You might decide we have more in common than you originally thought.
ONE - The symbol of happiness and family life is a rubber chicken.
TWO – We have a pet turtle named Yogurt. And Thing One is striving for us to have a pet tiger named Pancake. Our dog, surprisingly, is not named after food.
THREE – One of us does not like fruit. Another does not like seafood. And the third hates pasta.
FOUR – Every year for Christmas, we watch Trading Places — with Eddie Murphy and Dan Aykroyd. We never watch The Polar Express or It’s a Wonderful Life.
FIVE – Our favorite television show is M*A*S*H. I seriously consider sharing that show with my kids as part of my legacy as a parent.

I grew up watching MASH with my mom but I don’t think either of my boys have ever seen it.
My boys LOVE MASH. I thought I’d just make sure they knew what it was, but they actually seek it out to watch!

Hmmm…random fact about my family. Here goes:
I gave birth to The Twins on my birthday, so three out of five of us celebrate our births on May 23rd. What’s more? It was my 30th birthday, so my day is 5.23.71, and theirs is 5.23.01. In addition? That makes all three of us Geminis…yep…the sign of the twins.

My family wears Christmas-themed pajamas on Christmas eve. The entire time. Even dinner. All of us. We started the tradition at the request of my then-5-year-old niece. She just celebrated her 21st birthday. Even friends who come over later for coffee/dessert come in pajamas/sweats.
