AMF Summer Unplugged

by RChicken on June 9, 2012

Here in Missouri, the kids have been out of school for two weeks already. I know, that seems incredibly unfair to those of you in other places, doesn’t it?

The plus side of getting out of school later is that your kids haven’t started the “I’m bored” mantra yet.  I heard the first murmurings of that phrase yesterday.

When my boys were younger, I have vivid memories of me sitting up late into the night at the very beginning of summer vacation mapping out a grand master plan of every single field trip, learning experience, book and recipe we would tackle.

One year, I was so structured about it that I had an HOURLY schedule for the kids just to make sure that we didn’t “waste” a minute of our summer.

Wisdom has since intervened and I see that one of the best things about summer is unstructured time. Relaxing time. Making memories together as a family.

One of the things that the boys and I like to do in the summer is to go bowling. The air conditioner in the bowling alley is always set deliciously cool, and we can laugh and play together for hours there.

It gets us away from the Xbox, the television and the computer for a while. We reconnect, we laugh, we have a fabulous time together. The boys roll their eyes at my gutter balls and have a little friendly competition between themselves for bragging rights as the Best Bowler in the Family.

Being frugal and on a budget, I loved discovering AMF’s Summer UnPlugged – FREE Bowling for Kids ALL SUMMER LONG!  At AMF, kids 15 and under can bowl for free all summer. Simply register and you’ll get a weekly voucher for two free games per child per day through September 3. Shoe rental is not included.

OR Save as a Family – Only $8.99 for 2 Hours of Bowling for up to 6 People!

So, if you’re looking for a Fun, Interactive Outing? AMF Bowling is affordable entertainment that everyone loves!   No matter your budget, bowling is one of the best entertainment values available. You can check out their web page for specials or join the eClub at amf.com, for our best deals!

Then just grab the gang and head over for a great time, any time! For fun or for competition, when it comes to bowling, AMF has everybody else beat.

Who knows…maybe we’ll see you there?

I miss bowling. (and the junk food)
Early arthritis in my left elbow saw the end of my bowling days … and I rocked those cute little shoes ;)

We have a similar free summer bowling problem… er program in Alabama. Um. I MAY have just typed an addiction confession there. It winds up costing a little, because shoes and concessions still need a few bucks. (And no, I cannot deny EVERY request for a slushy. Just most of them.) And we’ve been out since May 25th. I. Am. So. Ready. For. Fall. My kids fall apart during unstructured time, and an organized schedule throws me into a tizzy. So I compromise and halfass plan everything but accomplish nothing.

Love this “halfass plan everything but accomplish nothing” — sounds a lot like THIS summer for me!

End of July over here, I just hope you go back earlier otherwise I pity you poor parents! And bowling is ridiculously expensive round here. And I suck at it. Have fun. :)

Coming to you from the Sunday Stalker Blog Hop (or something like that). Anyway I have to tell you, I clicked on your blog because of the “rubber chicken” part. In all of our high school plays… the rubber chicken would always appear somewhere. I think the tradition still continues today. anyway, sounds like you are going to have a fun summer!

Fun that a rubber chicken could have so much of a traditional significance :)
