Didn’t want to take a walk after work.
It was 92 degrees for heaven’s sake.
And I’d already been to the grocery store.
But it was National Walk at Lunch Day, and I hadn’t even TAKEN a lunch.
So, I decided to hit the pavement with my beloved beast and my ipod for just 30 minutes.
We were on our way back, when a Mama duck and her eight ducklings crossed the busy road in front of us.
Cars stopped.
People waited.
Everyone smiled.
And then, Mama Duck proceeded to take her brood for a swimming lesson.
All eight of them.
And to think, I used to skip church because I had two.
Liberty and I stood and watched.
(He’s supposed to be a bird dog — you know, the hunting type — but he doesn’t often want to chase down birds…he prefers squirrels)
And as we watched, I was amazed to see Mama Duck keep her eight little ones so close to her that in the photo, it looks like ONE duck.
So, from this walk I didn’t even want to take, I was reminded of three things:
1) Spring is an amazing time of year.
2) If I hadn’t taken the walk, I’d have missed an opportunity to see this amazing moment.
and…
3) Mamas of all types keep their babies super close until it’s time for those babies to stretch their own wings and discover the world on their own.

Im really happy you took that walk even though you didn’t much feel like it. And that’s not just because of my affinity for little quackers
Beautiful serene photo!
